Teacher Licensure and Campus Resources for Work in Childhood, Youth, and Learning

The Five College Teacher Licensure Program: Hampshire College has a collaborative relationship with Mount Holyoke College and Amherst College to assist students in working toward teacher licensure. The teaching licenses obtained through this program are recognized in approximately 45 other states. To become eligible for licensure in the state of Massachusetts through Mount Holyoke College, students must successfully complete the requirements of a teacher licensure program; pass the Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure (MTEL)[fees apply]; and submit licensure application materials and fees to the Massachusetts Department of Education. To find out which Hampshire courses will substitute for Mount Holyoke courses and for information and support in obtaining teacher licensure, contact the licensure coordinator, Sarah Frenette, at sfrenette@hampshire.edu.

Hampshire College Children's Center: An innovative early childhood program (infancy through preschool) primarily for children of Hampshire College staff, faculty, and students. HCCC is available for student observation, research, work-study, and volunteer opportunities. Contact Casey Smith, director, at x5706.
Collaborations for Excellence in Science Education was a joint project of Hampshire College and the Springfield School District in western Massachusetts that linked research in education with professional development for teachers. The research and outreach was a joint project running from 2002 to 2006, and was coordinated by Professors Laura Wenk and Theo Dawson-Tunik. lwenk@hampshire.edu

Teaching Issues and Experiments in Ecology is a web and CD-ROM resource designed to help faculty incorporate more student-active approaches in ecology courses.
The Eric Carle Museum for Picture Book Art is the first full-scale museum in this country devoted to national and international picture book art, conceived and built with the aim of celebrating the art that we are first exposed to as children. Through the exploration of images that are familiar and beloved, it is the museum’s goal to foster connections between visual and verbal literacy and to provide visitors of all ages and backgrounds with the confidence to appreciate and enjoy art of every kind.
