Centers and Programs

At Hampshire, academic work is not limited by traditional disciplinary boundaries. The core curriculum of the college is organized into five interdisciplinary Schools (Cognitive Science, Natural Science, Interdisciplinary Arts, Humanities Arts and Cultural Studies, and Social Science). Students' "majors" are individually negotiated concentrations that frequently integrate work across fields, areas, and schools of the college.

In addition to the regular curriculum, the college also supports a number of programs and centers that focus on new, emerging areas of study that aim to establish novel combinations of disciplines or to integrate learning with community-based or socially conscious endeavors internal and external to the college. Many of these centers and programs become established as ongoing activities at the college, while others emphasize issues of current interest.
