From 2009-2012, the Hampshire College DART (Design, Art, and Technology) Program fostered and supported inventive explorations at the intersections of art, design, and technology.
DART aimed to transcend disciplinary boundaries to create new artistic processes and innovative ways of thinking that explored synergies of design, art, technology, and their impact on individuals, society, and culture.
Although the DART Program no longer offers courses or grants, we encourage interested to contact the former program office to learn more about current Five College resources and course offerings.
Can a Room be Made to Have Empathy?
Thom Long and John Slepian asked a group of students to give it a try this January.
The class, titled "The Empathetic Space" and part of Hampshire's new Design, Art, and Technology program (DART), used architectural theory, interactive computing, and mechanical systems to augment the lobby of Hampshire's Johnson Library.
