MEDIA SERVICES

The media services office coordinates all media and media production equipment loans for Hampshire students, faculty, and staff. Media services also provides technical assistance, audio visual equipment, and event support for special events, film/video screenings, and sound systems for visiting musicians.

Media Loans

• Hampshire and Five College students, faculty, and staff can walk in and check out and book or reserve videos and DVDs. Students, faculty, and staff may check out videos and DVDs from any of the Five Colleges in person with a valid ID; borrowed materials may be returned to the lending library or their home institution.

• Videos and DVDs circulate for a loan period of 3 days.

• 16mm films are restricted to classroom use. Special arrangements may be made through media services for qualified projectionists to assist with these screenings.

• Videos and DVDs from any of the Five Colleges can be booked for classroom use or screenings by contacting media services well in advance of the screening date. Hampshire College students can borrow Five College videos and DVDs through media services for academic purposes.

• Stop by our office with booking and reservation requests for media from the Five College collection.

• Videos and DVDs can be placed on reserve for class use. Items on reserve circulate for a period of three hours and can be picked up from the main circulation desk during the library's open hours.

• Media services charges $5.00 per day per item not returned on time. Higher charges apply to items that have been recalled for use by another borrower. Borrowers are responsible for the replacement cost of items that are damaged, stolen, or lost while in their possession. A replacement charge will be generated for items four or more days overdue.

• Anyone borrowing materials from our collection may not advertise or charge admission for screenings.

Equipment Loans

Media Services circulates a variety of audio visual and media production equipment. We provide equipment for classroom use, special event services, academic work, and personal use. Certain equipment is meant for more experienced users, and preference will be given to them.

• Equipment requests should be submitted at least one week in advance (please note that equipment requests are requests, not reservations). Equipment can be picked up during our office hours (Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.). Please schedule accordingly.

• Only current members of the Hampshire College community may borrow equipment.

• The equipment loan period is two days. Media services charges $5.00 per day per item not returned on time. It is crucial that all equipment be returned by NOON on the due date. This policy will be strictly enforced.

• Delays in returning equipment are a major inconvenience to everyone and may deny another person the opportunity to pick up requested equipment.

• Higher fees may be charged for items that have been recalled. A replacement charge will be generated for items four or more days overdue.

• Please respect the needs of others who are waiting—return all equipment on time. Those who repeatedly damage, lose, or return equipment late will lose their borrowing privileges.

You can find info about our video equipment and audio equipment. on their respective pages.
