Reason I love working at Hampshire:
I am honored to be working for one of the most progressive liberal arts colleges in the country. I love sharing Hampshire’s educational philosophy with prospective students and their families. The prospective students I meet are incredibly inspiring—they are amazingly interesting, creative, and self-directed young people.

Favorite thing about living in the Five College area:
I appreciate—and take advantage of—the opportunities to experience the arts and cultural events within the Five College area. I love the college town atmosphere. And I love that there is virtually no traffic! I also love the variety of excellent restaurants and, more importantly, coffee shops.

Piece of advice for prospects in the college search process:
Colleges are not the same. Choose your college based on good reasons, such as sense of community, teaching/learning styles, academic interests, and resources. Trust your intuition. Your college will be your home for four years; it should feel right to you.

Favorite book and why:
Dumbing Us Down: The Hidden Curriculum of Compulsory Schooling, by John Taylor Gatto, because he exposes the realities, dynamics, and ironies of public education. Pedagogy of the Oppressed by Paulo Freire is also an excellent, timeless critique of traditional schooling.

Favorite way to procrastinate:
Relaxing at a coffee shop, sipping an iced decaf americano with cream.

A random fact about me: I am a “West Coaster,” having spent most of my life living in Arizona, California, Oregon, and Washington State. And I am enrolled in the Brazilian military (it's a long story).
