Reason I love working for Hampshire:
As a Hampshire alum I'm excited to continue to be a part of Hampshire's vibrant community. While studying at Hampshire I was struck the openness of its community and drew constant inspiration for the students around me. There aren't many colleges I know of whose structure fosters such profound transformations in its students. Hampshire is a college I believe in on a fundamental level, which makes working here a pleasure.
Title of my Division III project:
Filling the Void? The Implications of Reliance Upon Non-Governmental Organizations in Northern Senegal
Piece of advice for students in the college search process:
Find the college that makes you feel at home. Finding a college is about finding a community you feel comfortable in. If the college is right for you, the rest will fall into place.
Favorite books:
The Book of Laughter and Forgetting by Milan Kundera, For Whom the Bell Tolls by Earnest Hemingway, and Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry.
Favorite TV shows:
Glee, The Daily Show, Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations, The Office, and Battlestar Gallactica.
Favorite way to travel:
A bicycle! I ride my bike more or less everywhere, though I have been known to use cars for those long hauls. There are few things I like more than a good road trip, complete with greasy road food.
Favorite way to procrastinate:
Again, a bicycle! If I don't want to work, I'm probably off doing something fun outside (cycling, skiing, climbing).
Favorite places to spend time in the Pioneer Valley:
The Montague Bookmill, if you can find it. The Bookmill is the premier place to curl up with some work and a cup of coffee. Also, at the risk of sounding redundant, I love riding my bike through some of the gorgeous hill towns surrounding the Pioneer Valley.
The one thing I want to accomplish in the next several years:
Learn Spanish. I'd love to learn to speak Spanish fluently. I've always been a Francophile, but I increasingly wish I'd picked up some Spanish along the way.
A random fact about me:
I have an eerily good understanding of geography. Growing up I used to copy maps out of an atlas instead of drawing pictures.
