Financial Aid for International Students

Hampshire offers either need-based or merit-based financial assistance to international students, but not both. Need-based scholarships meet from one-quarter to full tuition ($8,946 to $35,785 for 2007-2008) and are awarded to approximately 10 students per year who show both superior academic promise and financial need. Room, board, books, transportation, and personal expenses are not covered; therefore each student must meet expenses of at least $11,000 per academic year. All students receiving need-based aid awards from Hampshire are offered an opportunity to meet part of their portion of expenses through a campus job. Campus job earnings normally range from $2,100 for first-year students to $2,400 in later years.

Merit-based awards of from $5,000 to $10,000 per year are offered to a limited number of top students whose financial need is too low to qualify for need-based aid.

U.S. citizens (even if dual), permanent residents, and naturalized citizens are not considered international students in the application process. They may use any application plan, and the maximum amount of financial assistance available can range up to full demonstrated need.

To apply for finacial aid, international applicants and their parents must complete and submit the following by the January 15 deadline:

  • The Certification of Finances Form
  • International Student Financial Aid Application
Additionally, if the student has a noncustodial parent, a second International Student Financial Aid Appliction must be submitted from this parent.
