Prospective Students' Blog

In a recent mailing sent by the admissions office, we asked prospective students to share their ideas about what they wished to accomplish in life. The following is a sample of some of the responses we received:

I want to learn as much as possible about human history, the world around me, and myself.
Megan
Burke, Virginia

I want to create life-long friendships that challenge and support me.
Matthew
Leander, Texas

LIVE
Gabrielle
Springfield, Virginia

I want to be an expert in as many areas as I possibly can. Then, find out how I can surpass that, just for fun.
Katherine
Del Mar, California

In life I want to learn as many things as I can and to always ask questions. I want to be a constant learner. And, I want to learn several foreign languages.
Randall

I want to help spread tolerance for the gay and lesbian community whil helping to prevent the spread of STDs.
Sarah

I want to surpass my own "comfort zone" and be all that I ever could be.
Olivia
San Antonio, Texas

I want to build a more efficient engine for cars.
John
Mercersburg, Pennsylvania

I hope to expand the use of non-invasive surgical techniques someday. Maybe then patients won't be as afraid of operations, and these operations will be performed more effectively.
Devinne
Village Park, Illinois

I want to challenge myself artistically.
Tiffany
Stilwell, Kansas

I hope to expand my knowledge of international law and sense of global community so that I will be able to work in Latin America to develop their economy and social welfare.
Kelsey

I want to combine my love of music and singing with my love of science and helping others. Perhaps a singing doctor?
Katarina
Macungie, Pennsylvania

I would like to raise awareness of the struggle of inner-city youth to raise their social and financial standards.
Matthew
Cranford, New Jersey

I want to move past mundane facts. I want to learn because I enjoy it, not because I have to. School, for me, must enrich the mind and enhance the soul.
Sam
Lancaster, Pennsylvania

In college, I hope to accomplish things that will help me later in life, like a medical degree so I can start a clinic for the underprivileged - or a law degree so I can help those who cannot pay for an attorney - or a degree in dance so I can pursue one of my dreams - or a degree in envionmental science, so I can help protect our most precious resource. These are the things I would love to do. Can you help? Katherine
Logan, Utah

I want to pick cherries in England.
Kelly
Longmont, Colorado

It has been inspirational (and fun!) to read your responses to our question, “what one thing do you hope to accomplish in college—or in life?” We look forward to adding more (hopefully your) responses to this question.
