Media Workshops
We offer ongoing workshops and tutorials for groups, classes, and individuals. Topics include lighting, audio recording, camera work, Final Cut Pro editing, ProTools editing, DVD Studio Pro, Photoshop, scanning, podcasting, QuickTime VRs, streaming media, and the full list of applications.
We're looking forward to our new situation in the media basement, and to serving a new client base. We're not actually losing the Film/Photo people, because we'll also have a small office over in the new Liebling building. We'll provide support to them as usual. It will be quite an honor to be in the Liebling building, because I'm a student of Jerry Liebling myself. But there's a shift in who's working in the basement even now. I'm fond of saying that the group of students who are the fastest growing media users on campus are the Social Science crowd. As technology allows all of us to afford the new generation of camcorders, more and more students end up doing video interviews or just documenting their travels and experiences. This new group of media users is going to become the dominant force for media on college campuses. Hampshire students are, as always, leading the way.
So even if you're a completely new user and you have a project with which you need help, make an appointment with us to go over it with you. Were happy to spend as much time with you as necessary for you to feel comfortable working on your own. Yes, it takes a little time to learn techniques and skills, but then you'll become independent and thus more productive. If you have friends who are in the same boat, bring them along. John Bruner is great with audio; John Gunther (that's me) likes to light and shoot, and both of us like to learn new things every day. Isn't that the whole point of college, and maybe life?
