Letter to Alums - November 2012

We are your representatives to the Hampshire Alumni Advisory Group (AAG), created last year to increase and improve alumni connections with the College. We’re writing to say hello, and to remind you of all the ways you can continue to be engaged with the place that had such a huge influence on so many of our lives.

So, here are the Top Five Ways for Alums to Engage with Hampshire.

1) Alumni website (www.hampshire.edu/alumni)

Learn about alumni events at the College and around the country, alumni news, volunteering and services, and find links to most of the items below.
Check here often for regional and on-campus events, such as the annual Reunions and Div IV—this year June 7–9 2013, on Culture, Mind, and Body (last year’s Div IV theme was Social Change), and Family, Alumni & Friends Weekend. Mark your calendar now for the June 2013 Div IV and Reunions for years ending in 3F/4S and 8F/9S and friends.

2) Social media

Facebook:
Post to the Alumni Think Tanks (Sustainability, Creativity, Social Justice, and Entrepreneurship). If you don’t use Facebook, join the discussion groups (see 3 below) in the online community. There are daily posts on the Hampshire College Facebook page, and almost 2,000 alums on the Hampshire College Alumni Group.

Join the Hampshire College Alumni Network on LinkedIn to reconnect with friends and to find and share opportunities.

3) Alumni directories

Update your contact information and preferences, and find and connect with other alums in the Alumni Directories. Not registered? Just use your ID Number to register now.
On the subject of online community discussion groups: Let’s better utilize this great resource. Once you’ve logged in to your Alumni directory account, you can access — and create new — affinity discussion groups.

4) Alumni news and profiles

Here’s your one-stop shop for alumni spotlights and Hampshire alums in the news. Tell alumni@hampshire.edu if you know of other great Hampshire alum stories—maybe yours? —to tell.

5) Class notes

Do you always flip to the back of Non Satis Scire to read the class notes and look for your friends? Again, log in to your Alumni directory account and you’ll be able to read class notes all the time—and update yours.

We know, we know: We said Top Five. But we’re Hampshire!

6) Speaking of Non Satis Scire...

Did you know that the magazine is available both on the web and on paper? Let Alumni Relations staff know your preference! As a matter of fact, update your email preferences or let alumni@hampshire.edu know if you would prefer to receive everything electronically.

8) Career Options Resource Center

CORC isn’t just for current students. Alums can also benefit from career counseling, job-search assistance, professional networking, and news about jobs and grants. And alums are always encouraged to volunteer their services to CORC: offer jobs or internships, come back to Hampshire to speak to current students, answer inquiries from students by e-mail and phone.

9) Alumni Advisory Group (AAG)

Members of the AAG act as ambassadors for the College: We spread the word about Hampshire, advise and help Alumni and Family Relations staff about programming and events for alums, and encourage the engagement of other alums.

P.S. If you have not yet given to the Hampshire Fund this year, you will soon be receiving an appeal. Please respond positively! Hampshire needs our involvement and our financial support. And this year if 1,000 alums give by December 31, the school will also receive a $30,000 challenge pledge.
