Guidelines for Auditing or Using Pass/Fail Option
Amherst College Pass/Fail Option:
• By the end of the Amherst College Interchange Period:
1. Pick up the required form from the Amherst College Registrar’s Office.
2. Obtain instructor’s permission on the form.
3. Return only the pass/fail form to Amherst College
You and the instructor will receive a copy of the form after the deadline. Once the deadline passes, this decision is permanent.
• By the end of the Hampshire College interchange period:
Request the course online and submit a signed IP form for courses that are listed as IP during the pre-registration period. Any course requested during the add/drop period needs to have a signed permission form returned to Central Records regardless of whether the course is IP or not.
Mount Holyoke College Pass/Fail Option:
DO NOT inform the instructor that you are taking the course Pass/Fail.
• By the end of the Hampshire interchange period:
1. Request the course online and submit a signed IP form for courses that are listed as IP during the pre-registration period. Any course requested during the add/drop period needs to have a signed permission form returned to Central Records regardless of whether the course is IP or not.
2. Pick up and complete the appropriate Pass/Fail form in Central Records
3. Return it to Central Records with your adviser’s signature
Smith College “Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory” Option:
• By the end of the Hampshire College interchange period:
Request the course online and submit a signed IP form for courses that are listed as IP during the pre-registration period. Any course requested during the add/drop period needs to have a signed permission form returned to Central Records regardless of whether the course is IP or not.
By the end of the ninth week of classes:
1. Pick up the required form from the Smith College Registrar’s Office
(Form is also available online at: www.smith.edu/registrar/forms.php under Change Grading Option.
2. Obtain the instructor’s signature on the form.
3. Return the form to the Smith College Registrar’s office
University of Massachusetts Pass/Fail Option:
• By the end of the Hampshire College interchange period:
. Request the course online and submit a signed IP form for courses that are listed as IP during the pre-registration period. Any course requested during the add/drop period needs to have a signed permission form returned to Central Records regardless of whether the course is IP or not.
• By the end of the UMass interchange period:
1. Go to Whitmore 213 to change your status to Pass/Fail. There are no additional forms to be filled out.
2. You may choose to remove the option in Whitmore 213 any time before the end of classes.
AUDITING
AMHERST, MOUNT HOLYOKE & SMITH COLLEGES:
DO NOT request the course online. An audit is a special arrangement between the student and the professor. No record of this audit will be recorded at Hampshire or at the other colleges.
UNIVERSITY OF MASSACHUSETTS: You MUST request the course online and MUST submit a signed instructor permission form. Make sure you write AUDIT clearly in large letters at the top of the permission form.
