Audit a Five College Course/Pass fail Option

AUDITING A FIVE COLLEGE COURSE

At Amherst, Mount Holyoke, and Smith Colleges:
DO NOT request the course online. An audit is a special arrangement between the student and the professor. The audit will not be recorded at Hampshire or at the other colleges.

At the University of Massachusetts:
By the end of the add/drop deadline, request the course online via TheHub, print out a permission form with AUDIT clearly written in large print at the top of the form, and submit the signed Five College request form to the central records office.

TAKING A FIVE COLLEGE COURSE PASS/FAIL

You must first request any Five College course online via TheHub. During preregistration, submit signed forms to central records for any courses listed as requiring instructor permission. During add/drop submit signed permission forms for ALL courses.

Some of the other schools require you to declare a pass/fail option by the end of their own interchange periods, which can differ from Hampshire's interchange period. Check the Five College calendar for these dates.

TO DECLARE A PASS/FAIL OPTION AT:

Amherst College:
By the end of the Amherst College interchange period, request the course as usual via TheHub and:

1. Pick up a pass/fail form at the Amherst Registrar’s Office at 101 Converse Hall.
2. Obtain instructor’s signature on the form.
3. Return just the pass/fail form to Amherst College. (Signed Five College request forms are returned to the central records office.)

You and the instructor will receive a copy of the form after the Amherst interchange deadline. Once the deadline passes, this decision is permanent.

Mount Holyoke College:
DO NOT inform the instructor that you are taking the course pass/fail. By the end of the Hampshire interchange period request the course as usual via TheHub and:

Pick up a pass/fail form in central records, and return the form, signed by your advisor, to the central records office.

Smith College:
By the end of the ninth week of classes, request the course as usual via TheHub and:

1. Pick up the required form from the Smith College registrar's office
(Form is also available online at: www.smith.edu/registrar/forms.php under Change Grading Option.)
2. Obtain the instructor’s signature on the form.
3. Return the form to the Smith College registrar’s office
