Cell Phone Stipends
Hampshire does not provide cell phones for employees' individual use, but we have a program in place for employees who routinely use cell phones for Hampshire business. Here's how it works.
Hampshire will reimburse employees for up to $150 toward the cost of a new phone to be used for business purposes.
We will then set up a stipend to reimburse the employee for the business use of that phone. The stipend shows up in your paycheck. To determine the stipend, we ask that you provide two months' worth of recent bills with work-related calls checked off. We will then calculate what percentage of your minutes used were for work, and will reimburse you for that percentage of your monthly bill.
For example, if 50% of your minutes used were for work-related calls, and your monthly bill is $100, we will reimburse you $50/month.
Stipends will be re-assessed on a yearly basis; we will ask you for additional recent bills at that time.
This system ensures that the cell phone will not be deemed a taxable benefit by the IRS.
Hampshire employees can get discounts on cell service and phones from AT&T and Verizon Wireless. Visit our techdiscounts page to sign up.
