The Hampshire IT department recommends and deploys Mozilla Thunderbird, a graphical email client. This decision was made for a number of reasons, the most important of which are:

• free and open-source
• excellent spam filtering built in
• ability to check multiple mail accounts
• ability to use SSL (Secure Socket Layer) and SMTP authentication, allowing you to send mail from anywhere in the world without changing your settings
• runs on OSX, Windows, and GNU/Linux, among others.
