Choosing a Career and Finding a Job

Everyone wants a rewarding life. For many of us, an essential part of that is a career that fits our interests and passions.

Listed below are a number of CORC resources that can help you analyze your interests, values, and skills; find career paths that incorporate them in some way; and search for jobs.

Meet With a Career Counselor. Career counseling sessions cover a wide range of topics, from exploring who you are (values, needs, concerns, etc.) to writing a resume, strategizing your job search, networking, facing your fears about interviewing, and more.

Read our How-to Guides. They give step-by-step instructions for writing resumes and cover letters, conducting a job search, developing an internship, and informational interviewing (gathering information about career possibilities).

Visit Spotlight on Careers. Twenty-nine liberal arts colleges are members of a network that provides information on a wide range of careers, including links to jobs and internships. The Weblinks are continually updated and enhanced.

Try CORC's Career and Internship Links. Here you'll find our subscription databases, such as Current Jobs for Graduates, ArtJobOnline, and Opportunities in Public Affairs. You can search for jobs in a great variety of special interest areas.

Join The Jobseekers Listserve. On this listserv we generally post job opportunities appropriate for new graduates as well as alumni with 3–5 years of experience in the workplace. The daily postings cover a wide range of career fields and geographic locations.

Explore the Career Library. For an alternative to electronic research, come to CORC and check out the books in our easy-to-use career library. We have a collection that covers all aspects of career planning. If you’re stuck for career ideas, you’ll be interested in books such as Top Careers for Liberal Arts Graduates, Careers for Nonconformists, and a series of books that suggest careers based upon interests and personality traits: Careers for Kids at Heart, Careers for Introverts & Other Solitary Types, Careers for Travel Buffs & Other Restless Types, and much more.
