Description:
Building successful multiracial organizations and alliances that are able to address effectively racial equity and social justice is a strategic imperative for achieving social justice in the United States. Yet progressive activists often repeat common mistakes and miss strategic opportunities to challenge systemic inequities and the barriers that keep people divided across race.

This workshop will examine the guiding principles, best practices, skills, and strategies for building effective multiracial alliances that have an explicit commitment to advance racial equity as well as other social justice issues.

Goals:

  • Clarify the meaning of key concepts, including racial equity and structural racism;
  • Assess how racism contributes to negative policies and how racial equity can benefit people across races;
  • Strengthen skills for framing social issues and public policies with a racial equity lens;
  • Examine principles, practices, skills, and strategies for building multi-racial alliances.
