Making of a College

Written in 1966 by Franklin Patterson, the first President of Hampshire, and assisted by Charles R. Longsworth, Hampshire's second President, The Making of a College:  A New Departure in Higher Education is one of Hampshire's primary founding documents.

This work provided much of the foundation for a shaping of a new college - a college that would depart from tradition and serve as a model for American higher education.

Under the leadership of Hampshire's fifth President, Ralph J. Hexter, Hampshire is poised to again reimagine the possibilities in an already innovative liberal arts college.

Originally, President Hexter refered to this effort as "Making of a College II," but then revised it to "Making of a College 2.0."  As this process has evolved, the latest version is entitled, Making of a College 2.2 and Strategic Planning.
