Hampshire in Germany

Program Availability: Every Other Spring Semester (2011, 2013, etc.)

From the beginning of January and continuing through June, Hampshire College offers a small group of students the opportunity to live and study in Berlin, Germany.

Students will have the opportunity to study at the following leading institutions of higher education in Berlin during their second semester, from its beginning in April through June.

The Free University of Berlin
The Humboldt University in Berlin

The Berlin University of the Arts

Technical University Berlin

Features of the program include:

  • Intensive study of the German language at a leading foreign language academy in Berlin.
  • The Hampshire Berlin Seminar, including historical and architectural tours of Berlin; concerts; theatre performances; museum and art exhibits; and lectures.
  • Academic excursions to Potsdam and other sites in the Berlin region, as well as other German cities, and places such as Prague, Cracow, and Warsaw.


ELIGIBILITY

Applicants must be in good academic standing with advanced German language skills to participate. Three semesters of college-level German is recommended. 


TERM DATES

Spring Semester: February-June

Important Note: This program is offered every other year (Spring 2011, Spring 2013, etc.) 


HOUSING AND MEALS

Housing is arranged for students in family homestays and/or student apartments. Students receive a monthly meal stipend.


PROGRAM COSTS

Semester tuition, room, board, and health insurance fees paid to Hampshire College. A travel stipend may be awarded through GEO to offset the cost of airfare
