Race and Empire Lecture Series

The 2008-2009 Humanities Lecture Series addresses the particular intersection of race and empire. While there is a great deal of scholarship in postcolonial and whiteness studies individually, relatively little focuses on their convergence in the comtemporary global system. Their convergence calls for a new interdisciplinary critique. Race and empire run across the boundary lines between aesthetic and the political, the imaginary and the scientific, and the cultural and the economic. What subjective forms does race embody under transnational corporatism? What modes of analysis does contemporary neoliberal culture demand from the humanities and cultural studies?
