Prescott House

Prescott House is one of Hampshire's three "mod"-style residences. Mods are one and two-story apartments that usually house students in their second, third, and fourth years. Each mod has four to ten residents, all in single rooms. Prescott House, one of the smaller living areas, currently has 239 residents.

Every mod contains a common living/dining room, a kitchen, and one to three bathrooms. Many mods contain unique spaces called “cathedral” rooms. Cathedral rooms have tall ceilings that create a more spacious feel. The other unique room style is the “loft” room. Loft rooms are actually divided into upstairs and downstairs areas, allowing a student to separate his or her space into a bedroom and a study area.

Prescott also has three “suite” style mods. These mods house six residents, and have some of the largest doubles on campus. Residents of the suites must be on a partial meal plan, because suites, unlike the other mods, have limited kitchen facilities.

Prescott House is also the home of The Tavern, a student-run snack shop, available to be reserved by faculty and students for various types of performances and events. Please check with the house office for forms and sign-out procedures.

The Prescott House office is a hub of activity in Prescott. The house office is staffed by a house director, who has principal responsibility for the overall functioning of the living area; a house secretary, responsible for the administrative aspects of each office; and trained students, known as "interns," who assist the professional staff in providing a variety of services for residents of the Houses, including:

  • Processing requests for room and mod repairs
  • Staff coverage during non-business hours
  • Lock-outs
  • Planning and implementing programming events
  • Producing house newsletters and weekly flyers
  • Mediation/conflict resolution
  • Maintaining the norms of community living
  • Informal, non-clinical counseling
  • Crisis intervention
  • Referrals to on- and off-campus resources

The Prescott House office also makes available a variety of items to improve the quality of campus living including some cleaning supplies, vacuums, games, hand carts, trash bags, toilet paper, etc. Check with the house office for availability and procedures.
