The VP/Dean is the chief academic officer of the college, is responsible for the direction and maintenance of the academic life of the college, and acts for the president in his absence. The VP/Dean has oversight of the entire academic budget as well as related services including advising and registrarial functions, Global Education, and the Writing Program. The successful candidate will have an earned Ph.D. or comparable terminal degree; a distinguished record of scholarship or equivalent creative activity and teaching commensurate with appointment to a senior faculty rank; and extensive managerial experience at a senior level including but not limited to budget, personnel, and program development.

Reporting to the College’s Vice President for Finance and Administration, the Director is responsible for facilities planning, capital projects management, facilities operations, energy procurement and management, maintenance management, grounds and landscape, recycling, custodial operations, and construction document management. The Director oversees a comprehensive, multi-year facilities plan incorporating major strategic projects, campus renewal and modernization projects, and maintenance needs. The Director will engage and encourage a talented group of professionals to continually develop technical skills, integrate sustainability concepts in projects, manage the annual operating and facilities renewal budgets, establish department standards and policies, use key performance indicators to manage operations, and provide detailed, technical reports to senior management.
An engineering degree and professional certification are preferred. At least five years of physical plant management experience is required, preferably in an academic institution. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of progressively responsible experience managing a large and effective team, and will demonstrate a commitment to superior customer service and collegial decision-making. Strong technical skills, including the development of sophisticated spreadsheet models, regular reporting of key performance indicators, experience with database and rendering tools, and experience with Sightlines analysis, are desirable.

The responsibilities of the Language Coordinator involve serving as a resource for those seeking opportunities to integrate language study into their academic programs and for faculty career development. Working with faculty to promote foreign-language materials into their teaching so that students are inspired to understand how to access such resources to deepen their understanding of issues and cultures. Assist students to develop individualized plans of language study that support and advance their respective creative, academic or community-engagement interests. Serves as the college’s primary liaison with the Five College Center for the Study of World Languages, reinforcing that language is important for all who seek to understand the world and to make a difference in that world.
Master's degree required; PhD preferred in language pedagogy, second-language acquisition or a related liberal arts field. Competence in one or more languages other than English is required. The Language Coordinator will not be expected to teach language at Hampshire. This position requires a high degree of independence and flexibility with excellent verbal, written, organizational and interpersonal skills.

Alumni Relations Officer

We are accepting applications for an alumni relations officer in the Office of Institutional Advancement.
The alumni relations officer is responsible for official communications with Hampshire College alumni and friends, including via paper, phone, and the Internet. The scope of communications includes general correspondence; publicity; marketing materials for events; surveys; alumni stories and profiles; and announcements for the Web and other media. In particular, the alumni relations officer is charged with producing lively text for the alumni Web site and keeping up to date with other Hampshire-linked online communities, including Facebook, LinkedIn, MySpace, and other such electronic vehicles as they develop. Key functions are to work closely with the director to build relationships with alumni across the country, and to serve as the go-to person within Alumni Relations on Web site matters. The alumni relations officer also attends alumni, fundraising, and other college events as appropriate.
The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree and three to five years of professional experience in alumni relations, communications, or a related field; excellent writing and proofreading skills; excellent interpersonal skills; and a facility for and experience with using on-line communities and Web-based communications. Under the direction of the dean of student services, the director will serve as the main point of contact for dealing with family issues and concerns, and will offer programs and resources to support and engage families in their students' experiences. The incumbent will be responsible for designing and executing several programs throughout the year, including our annual family orientation program for 400+ parents and family members, as well as overseeing the continued development of the Office of Family Services. This role is a liaison between families and the college, providing both support and information.
Bachelor’s degree in higher education or related field plus two to three years progressively responsible experience in higher education, preferably within academic or student affairs or related work, required. Directly related educational background would be considered as relevant work experience. Demonstrated success in the management and leadership of higher education programs; working effectively with a diverse student population; and functioning independently and autonomously to complete projects with limited supervision. Must be comfortable with the ambiguities inherent in highly collaborative environments and non-traditional educational settings. We are accepting applications for a coordinator of queer student services.
Under the direction of the associate dean of student development, the coordinator of queer student services provides programmatic and administrative support for the activities and initiatives of the Queer Community Alliance Center. Responsibilities include the development, delivery, and evaluation of a comprehensive program on gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and queer issues (GLBTQ).
This is a part-time, 25-hour-per-week, 10½-month position with an employment cycle of August 1st to June 15th. This two-year position supports all the reporting functions of the Office of Institutional Advancement using Datatel’s Colleague Advancement database. Candidate writes queries and creates reports, conducts data analyses, and will train users on how to run those reports and queries using Datatel’s Query Builder functionality as well as Microsoft Access. This position requires a bachelor’s degree and at least three years of experience using database systems; advanced knowledge of report writing tools; and advanced computer skills, including Unidata, Sequel, Microsoft Access, and ODBC experience. Knowledge and understanding of fundraising systems and financial reports relating to gifts and pledges and experience working in a higher education development office strongly preferred.
