Mechanical-HVAC Specialist

We are  currently accepting applications for a full time Mechanical-HVAC Specialist to join our Facilities Team.

Responsibilities include the maintenance, installation and repair of all campus mechanical and HVAC systems. Candidate should be able to interpret and apply local, State and Federal mechanical, electrical and refrigeration codes. Should be current with code changes and pertinent safety regulations and insure that assigned staff adheres to the same regulations. Applicant must be able to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, specifications and technical manuals. Participates in the Physical Plant’s on-call emergency response program, and must be flexible to perform other duties as required. Excellent customer service is essential.

A Massachusetts Refrigeration License and CFC Transition and Recovery Universal Certification are required. Minimum 3 years field experience working as an HVAC technician, or 2 years of formal trade school education can be substituted for 1 year of the required work experience. Candidate should be able to operate pneumatic, electric, electronic and Direct Digital Control (DDC) systems. Computer skills are a must.

Work is both indoors and outdoors and may involve exposure to unpleasant elements and a harsh environment such as extreme temperatures, wind, sunlight, rain, dust, fumes, smoke, loud noises, chemicals, etc. Candidate must be able to perform heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs.) for an extended period of time; must be capable of wearing a full body harness for working at heights and in confined spaces; and under certain situations may be required to wear a respirator. Position requires a valid driver’s license and must successfully meet the requirements of Hampshire College’s driver credentialing policy.
