General Literature Sites

• Voice of the Shuttle Probably the largest collection of humanities Web sites, collected and organized by UC Santa Barbara.
• E-SERVER Gathers many excellent sites and organizes them by subject (called "Collections"). An on-going project of Iowa State University.
• Literary Resources on the Net A collection of links to sites for English and American literature, excluding most single electronic texts, and limited to collections of information useful for academic research. From Jack Lynch at Rutgers.
• Online Literary Criticism Collection Links to critical and biographical websites about U.S. and British literary works.
• Humbul Humanities Hub  Sixteen sections of links, maintained by Oxford University, all very well annotated.
• Poets.org Biographical information, news about performances, and a growing body of full-text poems. Created and maintained by the Academy of American Poets.

American Literature Sites

• PAL: Perspectives in American Literature A very good site, organized by time periods and by themes, maintained by Paul Rueben at Cal State.
• African American Women Writers of the 19th Century Full text of over 52 published works, searchable by keyword. Part of the New York Public Library's Schomburg collection.
• Documenting the American South: Beginnings to 1920 A full-text database of primary resources on Southern literature and history from the University of North Carolina.
• Literature and Culture of the American 1950s A rich site of literary and historical links covering all aspects of the 50s, includes newsreels, posters, photographs, and audio files. Maintained by Alan Filreis of UPenn.
• The Mississippi Writers Page Covers William Faulkner, Eudora Welty, Tennessee Williams, and many others.
• Zora Neale Hurston Plays Full text of 10 unpublished plays and links to many other Hurston resources on the web. Part of the Library of Congress American Memory project.

• The Dickens Project An excellent bibliography of critical studies of Dickens work and many useful links to research web sites. From the University of California.
• Mr. William Shakespeare and the Internet An annotated guide to scholarly Shakespeare resources on the Internet.
• Romantic Chronology Chronology of 17th through 19th century that links to sites and full-text documents. Excellent resource for literature.
• Romantic Circles Scholarly articles, texts, and discussion of Romantic-period literature and culture.
• The Victorian Women Writers Project A"virtual" collection of the literary works of British women writers of the Victorian period.
• Women Romantic Era Writers Electronic text archives with much additional critical material, maintained at the University of London.

• African Literature and Writers on the Internet An alphabetical list of entries on African literature; not exhaustive but good starting point for African authors.
• Contemporary postcolonial and postimperial literature in English An introduction to about 100 contemporary postcolonial authors. Geographical and historical background, individual author biographies and analysis. A work in progress, but a very useful resource.
• Irish literature, myth, folklore and drama A rich site to explore with links to all aspects of Irish culture past and present.
• Reading Women Writers and African Literature Biographical and bibliographical information on African women writers. Part of a research and teaching project by the French department at the University of Western Australia. In French and English.
