  • English Server: film and television A large number of useful links from Iowa State University.
  • Media and Communications Site A rich collection of links to studies in media/communications, organized by topic (e.g. gender, pop music, visual images, etc.) from the University of Aberystwyth in Wales.
  • Voice of the Shuttle: Media Theory and History An excellent group of links from the University of California/Santa Barbara.
  • Ad*Access Presents images and database information for over 7,000 advertisements printed in U.S. and Canadian newspapers and magazines between 1911 and 1955. Concentrates on five main subject areas: Radio; Television; Transportation; Beauty and Hygiene; and World War II.
  • Internet Movie Database A commercial site that covers all sorts of information on mainstream movies from plot summaries to box office grosses to credits.
  • UbuWeb is a large public domain Web-based educational resource for avant-garde material available on the internet, founded in 1996 by poet Kenneth Goldsmith. It offers visual, concrete, and sound poetry, and a remarkable archive of experimental film and music. This link goes to the list of filmmakers whose work is available.
  • CineMedia A huge directory of over 25,000 links gathered by the American Film Institute.
  • Flicker: Homepage for Alternative Cinematic Experience Source for films and videos that "transgress the boundaries of the traditional viewing experience, challenge notions of physical perception and provide cutting edge alternatives to the media information technocracy."
  • Infosurf: Film and Television A good list of links to film and TV sites.
  • Museum of the Moving Image Online exhibits explain the science and technology behind the creation and display of films and television shows.
  • Television/Video Production A free web course of 70 modules covering all aspects of television/video production. Updated regularly.
  • Vanderbilt Television News Archive A searchable archive of evening news broadcasts from major television networks, covering  ABC, CBS and NBC from 1968; CNN from 1995; and FOX from 2004. You can search by subject, date, or news reporter. Searching is free (but you need to register as a user to begin) and you can order VHS copies of an individual program for a $50 fee. Compilation tapes (of segments from several different broadcasts) can also be ordered, again for a fee.
