When you have a URL to an article or other resource, and you want someone else to have access to that same resource, you need to give that person the link. It is often the case, however, that the link will fail to work within a few hours, and won't work off campus, because the link is not in the correct format. A link such as:
http://amso.alexanderstreet.com.proxy2.hampshire.edu/view/1514415
will have to be rewritten to
http://proxy2.hampshire.edu/login?url=http://amso.alexanderstreet.com/view/1514415
in order for it to work, and
http://www.jstor.org/stable/pdfplus/27929843.pdf
will have to be rewritten to
http://proxy2.hampshire.edu/login?url=http://www.jstor.org/stable/pdfplus/27929843.pdf
in order for it to work.
This converter will do that for you.
For more complex conversions, please see the document How To Make Links That Work
