The Hampshire College Archives
What are the Hampshire College archives?
The Hampshire College archives are the raw materials of Hampshire history. They comprise a collection of materials by and about Hampshire College people, programs and activities. These records are produced in the course of day-to-day operations, and transferred to the archives when no longer in daily use by the originating office or group. This material forms a documentary record of the history and functioning of Hampshire College.
What kinds of material are available in the archives?
The archives preserve Hampshire College publications of all kinds, including catalogs and course guides, newsletters and bulletins, student-produced newspapers and magazines, college governance committee minutes and reports, planning material from the early years of the college, photographs, transcripts of interviews and speeches, and correspondence files from college offices (although access to many of these correspondence files requires the permission of the office of origin).
How do I access the archives?
Much archival material is available on this website. See the volumes of the Documentary History of Hampshire College, the History of Student Activities and Achievements at Hampshire College, and the full text documents on the other archival resources page for access.
Access to the archives collection is by appointment with Susan Dayall, the college archivist. Call her at 413.559.5761 to set up a time to use the collection, email her at sdayall@hampshire.edu, or stop by her office on the first floor of the library.
