Oscillating Bodies

Oscillating Bodies: Division III Dance Improvisation Happening with Scores

by Kelley Mariani

This community-in-motion performance was held April 28 and 29, 2009.

Using dance improvisation and movement games Oscillating Bodies generated a palpable embodied sensitivity and awareness of group, self, and environment. Performance of a repertoire of scores such as The Witness Line, Spiral, Spatial Mapping, and Flocking offered opportunities to actively interrupt usual conventions of space, opening moments to re-imagine possible ways in which we as humans may be in relation to one another. The evening showed how dance improvisation develops a state of active oscillation between action and reflection, which can be carried into our daily understanding and serve to actively educate ourselves about ourselves and one another.

With dancers Katrina De Wees (06), Melanie Drogseth (08), Eric Hnatow (staff), Ana Keck (08), Kelley Mariani (04), Haley Morgan (04), Jonathan Sellers (04), Josh Sugiyama (08), and RP Whitmore-Bard (06).
