$1 Million Grant Celebrates 30 Years of CLPP at Hampshire

For three decades the Civil Liberties and Public Policy (CLPP) program at Hampshire College has educated new generations of reproductive rights leaders. As CLPP prepares to celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2011, an anonymous donor has stepped forward to make a strong statement of appreciation for the past work of CLPP — and to support its future — with a $1 million gift.

The $1 million grant will go toward operational support for CLPP and the Population and Development program over the next decade.

The grant is also the “seed” gift in a larger fundraising effort, said the program’s associate director Mia Kim Sullivan, and establishes the CLPP 30th Anniversary Fund.

“CLPP has experienced significant growth over the past three decades,” said Sullivan. “This grant and other gifts that it helps to inspire will assist us in expanding our work to mentor new leaders and activists who are working to secure reproductive freedom and social justice for everyone.”

CLPP will celebrate its 30th anniversary at the next annual conference for student and community activists, From Abortion Rights to Social Justice: Building the Movement for Reproductive Freedom. The conference will be held April 8-10, 2011.

If anyone would like to share memories related to CLPP or about your work within the program, or would like to find out how you might help support CLPP, please contact development officer Tina Barsby at tbCLPP@hampshire.edu.
