Hampshire has joined the United States Collegiate Athletic Association as a member of the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC).
The YSCC is made up of 15 schools from Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, New York, and now Massachusetts.
Current intercollegiate sports offerings at Hampshire include men’s and women’s basketball teams, men’s and women’s soccer teams, men’s and women’s cross country, and a fencing team. Although previously unaffiliated, Hampshire has competed with many of the colleges in the YSCC, as well as other schools, in recent years.
“Intercollegiate sports are an important part of Hampshire life,” said Bob Garmirian, director of the Outdoor Program and Recreational Athletics (OPRA) at Hampshire. “They provide opportunities for students to have fun, stay fit, and participate in shared community as well as visit and compete with other colleges.”
The Yankee Small College Conference lists its mission as aspiring “to provide each student-athlete with a total experience in their pursuit of excellence, through quality competition, high academic standards, and a meaningful student life.”
