May 23-June 4, 2011
What’s that on the road? It’s not a biker gang… it’s… the First New England Bicycle Dance Troupe, coming to a town near you. See them dance in natural settings, perform in small towns and villages, and teach in elementary schools.
Griff Goehring, adjunct assistant professor of dance at Hampshire College and director of Green Mountain Creative Dance Center, leads 11 bicycle dancers (and their support staff) through Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont for a two week tour-de-force of creative group dance.
Hampshire students and alums Alexandra Constas, Catherine Coupe, Kyla Ferguson, Dylan Kaufman-Obstler, Jeremy Koelmel, Gwendolyn Niven, Maddison Palffy, Aliza Persing, and Griff Goehering, along with their supports Chani Bockwinkel, Mark Goehring, and Gabriel Rowe, will pass through Turners Falls, MA, and Hinsdale, NH, before landing in Bellows Falls, VT for a day of performance and teaching that will include a noon-time performance in Island Park (rain location: Waypoint Center).
Donations for this performance will benefit Parks Place.
The next few days will take the group through Saxton’s River, Grafton, Townshend and Jamaica, VT. Spontaneous outbursts of improvised dance are likely in any/all of these locations.
On May 31, the cycling dancers arrive in Brattleboro, VT, for three days of dancing and teaching in local schools Oak Grove Elementary & Hilltop Montessori. Look for them to make an appearance during the June 3 Gallery Walk.
For more detailed information on the route or performances, contact Griff Goehring, 802.380.0068 or email@example.com.
All performances are free.
