Hampshire College was created in 1969 by the four other institutions in the Five College Consortium (Amherst, Smith, and Mount Holyoke Colleges and the University of Massachusetts/Amherst) to experiment with novel approaches to college teaching and academic structure. Over 30 years later we remain an innovative institution.
