Dear Hampshire Community,

I am very glad to say I am on board at last. I have been impatient to get started, and the transition has seemed too long. Ellie and I have moved in at 15 Middle Street, and have been met with kindness at every turn. Thank you.

In the coming weeks and months I hope to meet each of you, visit every building, walk every part of the campus, and begin to get a sense of what you do and how you do it. I have a lot to learn - about Hampshire, about higher education, and about our community - I am counting on you to help me. If you see me wandering around the campus feel free to stop me and tell me what's on your mind. If you have ideas or concerns that I should know about I will welcome them by email, or in person.

Finally, an invitation: Ellie and I would like to invite you and your family to an informal reception at 15 Middle Street on Wednesday August 17, from 2:00 to 5:30. Please let my office know if you can make it by emailing us at president@hampshire.edu or calling x5521.

I am honored and happy to become a part of the Hampshire community, and I am looking forward to playing a role in building on its great tradition of innovation, experimentation, and inspired teaching and learning.
