Borrowers are free to select any loan or lender from the many lenders and loan products currently available. If you choose to borrow from a lender not listed on this website, we may need some additional information from you to process the loan.

We use a national loan processing system that is maintained by ELM Resources of Oakland, California, (ELM) to process PLUS and private loans. The ELM system allows us to process these loans electronically. Most of the country's lenders are members of the ELM system. The ELM system also disburses these loans directly to us electronically.

If you choose to borrow from a lender not listed on our website, please inquire as to whether the lender is a member of the ELM system:

If the lender is a member of ELM, proceed to apply through their process whether it is via the phone, online, or paper. After the lender receives your application and promissory note the institution will contact us via the ELM system. We will then be able to process the loan electronically.

If the lender is not a member of ELM, we will need to process the loan manually via a paper process or other web access. If we need to process the loan manually, we may ask you to:

• please submit a signed and completed application and promissory note to the lender prior to August 15 for the fall term or by January 15 for the spring term so we can process the loan before classes begin;
• please provide our loan counselor the mailing address or fax number where a paper certification form should be sent, a phone number of the processing agency, and/or the website where the loan can be electronically processed; and 
• please endorse (if a paper check is sent to you or us) and return the paper check to Hampshire within seven days of receiving it.

Regardless of whether the lender is a member of ELM, we process loan applications in a timely manner from any lender.
