Please maintain your financial records from Hampshire College and keep all semester bills and payment records with your tax-related documents.
Form 1098T is for informational purposes and should be kept with your tax records. Consult a tax expert if you have any questions regarding the form 1098T and your taxes.
These are some key points to remember when viewing your 1098T form:
Hampshire College reports transactions, charges, and credits, based on the date of posting to the student account. This means that spring semester charges for a current year, posted in December, will be reported on the 1098T form in the prior year. A tax filer is expected to use charges reported in a 1098T from a prior year for a subsequent tax year filing.
The College is not required to, and therefore does not, calculate total payments on a student account. Your personal records are the best source for calculating payments made.
Payments alone will not trigger printing of a 1098T. There must be qualified educational charges or financial aid transactions posted in any calendar year to generate a 1098T.
