CSI-131T: The Art(s) of Place/Making

Placemaking is a process by which human beings transform the world around them. This includes constructing buildings, cultivating the land, planting gardens, organizing public art activities, cleaning city streets, organizing mural projects and street block parties, and even organizing shopping districts. In this course, we will analyze the process of placemaking and learn how communities have made efforts to successfully make claims to geographic territories. A particular emphasis will center on the role of public art projects in fostering social justice goals within aggrieved U.S. urban communities.
