Mary James is A.A. Knowlton Professor of Physics and dean for Institutional Diversity at Reed College. In her teaching and research, Mary specializes in accelerator physics, classical electrodynamics, and physics outreach. After earning her B.A. from Hampshire, she received her Ph.D. in applied physics from Stanford University in 1986. In addition to her positions at Reed, she has worked as engineering physicist and visiting scientist at Stanford’s Linear Accelerator Center, and as assistant professor in the department of electrical engineering at the University of Maryland, College Park.
