Carol Varney joined the Hampshire Board in 2015.

Carol is currently the executive director of TimeSlips, an organization providing services that live at the intersection of arts and healthcare for people living with dementia.

Prior to TimeSlips, Carol was the executive director for the Arts Foundation for Tucson and Southern Arizona, and she serves on the Advisory Board of SPACE Gallery in Portland, Maine. A lifelong lover of and advocate for the arts, Carol has dedicated her career to community service and engagement through fundraising, program development, and leadership roles at a variety of organizations spanning the arts and education.

Prior to her role at the TimeSlips and the Arts Foundation, Carol was executive director for Bay Area Video Coalition (BAVC) in San Francisco, where she worked for a decade. During Carol’s tenure at BAVC, the organization received the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation’s MacArthur Award for Creative and Effective Institutions (MACEI), an award for innovation from the Aspen Institute, and its youth programs were recognized with the National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award—the nation's highest honor for after-school and out-of-school-time arts and humanities programs—by the President’s Committee on the Arts and Humanities, conferred by First Lady Michelle Obama at a White House ceremony in fall 2016.
