We had a wonderful 15 Years of CBD birthday celebration at the October Family and Friends weekend. We thank everyone who attended. From the amazing presentation by current students and alum, to our birthday party with founding program faculty, Neil Stillings and Barbara Yngvesson, President Miriam Nelson, and many new faces, it was a great success.
We’re pleased with what CBD has accomplished. Most of all, we’re proud of what our students have gone on to do in their personal and professional lives. Often, they have been at the forefront of a new paradigm of research that crosses boundaries and integrates multiple disciplines, leading to new understanding about what shapes us as humans in a complex, interconnected world.
The keystone of the Culture, Brain, and Development Program's work is student research. CBD grants, totaling about $45,000 each year, give Hampshire students an unparalleled opportunity to pursue their research questions working alongside scholars in many fields and at research sites and laboratories across the globe. For many students, these are the formative projects of inquiry that shape their divisional work at Hampshire and their future as pioneering learners and leaders in their fields.
On this milestone occasion, we are launching Fifteen & Forward, an exciting fundraising initiative to fully fund the CBD student grants program so that it is sustainable into the future. Our aim is to build the CBD Student Research Endowment to ensure that CBD has a permanent and reliable source of funds to support the innovative work students do across the Hampshire campus and the globe.
To get this campaign off to a strong start, the family of an alum has generously pledged $15,000 to challenge other donors and to match any gifts made by December 31. Realizing this match means an addition of $30,000 to the fund, and would be a huge boost to the Student Research Endowment. I hope you will take advantage of this opportunity to have your gift matched towards this goal.
