Community Members Enrolling in or Auditing Hampshire Courses

Community members may audit or enroll in a maximum of one course per semester, on a space-available basis, at the discretion of the faculty member and with some limitations.

Types of courses not available to community members either to enroll in or audit:
Creative Writing, Film/Photography/Video, Studio Art, Theatre

Types of courses not available to community members to audit:
Language, lab courses, music performance, and OPRA (Outdoors Program and Recreational Athletics)

Use this form to either enroll in or audit a course. Return the completed form to the central records office located in the Lemelson Building. Community members will be enrolled at the beginning of the semester, after the instructor confirms there is a space available.

Cost

The tuition to enroll in a course is $1800 per course. Checks should be payable to “Trustees of Hampshire College” and submitted along with the form. Some courses have additional fees. Any additional fees (check the course description) should be included in the payment. OPRA courses have their own fee schedule. There is no tuition to audit a course.

Transcripts

Community members are issued letter grades upon course completion. They may request a transcript at no additional cost. No grade or transcript is issued for an audit.

Hampshire Graduates

The tuition for Hampshire graduates is $600. Graduates receive narrative evaluations and the course is listed on their Hampshire transcripts.

Notes

  • Area high school students and home-schooled students should contact the central records office to discuss taking a course.
  • Benefit-eligible employees may enroll in Hampshire College courses for academic credit with certain restrictions. Please check the full policy.
  • The degree to which an auditor may or may not participate is at the discretion of the faculty member teaching the course.
  • Community members will have access only to those campus resources necessary to complete the requirements of the course.
