The World Language Enrichment and Acquisition program at Hampshire College offers faculty Mellon language learning and course development grants. These grants are unique, and are not to be confused with regular faculty development grants or grant-based awards. Mellon funds provide faculty with the opportunity to connect their language learning to course development while taking into consideration the larger goal of making Hampshire a language-learning community.
These funds support faculty who seek to add competence in a new world language or to deepen significantly their competence in a language with which they have some familiarity. Faculty receiving these funds should consider how they may introduce the new language into at least one of their courses.
- Adding a language component to an existing course
- Developing a new course that would possess the desired language component
- Working with a colleague to develop a co-taught course with a strong language component
Moodle and Language Learning
A small number of grants are also available for faculty interested in collaborating with the IT department to develop and pilot courses using the online Moodle Learning Management System. These may be existing or new courses, and would incorporate a language component. Please contact the WLEA office for more information.
A call for proposals will be sent out to all faculty at least one month before the deadline.
