COVID-19 and Travel

Hampshire College has lifted the suspension of  all college-sponsored international travel in light of the worldwide security situation due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Student college-sponsored international travel is permitted to countries listed as a 1 or a 2 on the U.S. State Department Travel Advisories list.   Students are encouraged to refer to both the U.S. State Department Travel Advisories and the new country-specific COVID ratings and international travel restrictions issued by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.  Students wishing to travel to countries/regions with a level 3 or level 4 CDC COVID rating must appeal to the Vice President of Academic Affairs/Dean of Faculty and/or the President of the College for approval (see full guidelines below). Students may be required to sign additional waivers and agreements of participation as appropriate. Students would also be responsible for financial costs and logistical arrangements associated with the cancellation or interruption of the program.

More on Health and Safety

All students going abroad are expected to show evidence that their medical insurance includes international coverage. For a complete overview of the health and safety requirements, considerations, services, and resources available, see the Student Travel Information on the Five College Risk Management website.

All students, faculty, and staff studying abroad or traveling on school-sponsored activities have Medical Evacuation/Repatriation Insurance and access to travel assistance services through AIG/Travel Guard. For more information on AIG/Travel Guard benefits, please visit Travel Assistance Services (AIG/Travel Guard).

The global education office strongly recommends that all students going abroad actively seek information regarding health and personal safety resources in their host countries. You are encouraged to speak with your family physician and/or to health services about your plans so that you can be fully apprised of all personal health issues surrounding your international experience. The more informed you are, the more you will get out of your time abroad! Please review the resources below:
