2015 Staff Excellence Awards
Joan Barrett and Debora Nelson received the 2015 Carol and Blair Brown Staff Excellence Awards, presented May 1. Barrett is the administrative assistant in the School of Natural Sciences and Nelson is an annual giving associate in the advancement office.
The awards recognize staff who, individually or as members of a team, have made an exceptional contribution to Hampshire College. Nominations can be made by any member of the campus community.
Barrett’s professionalism and dedication helped her win the award. President Jonathan Lash described her as a “creative connector, someone who builds strong connections with and between students, staff and faculty, on both large and small scales.”
Pointing to Nelson’s engagement with student workers and creation of a “happy atmosphere that allows students to flourish and perform amazing work,” President Lash described her as thoughtful, collaborative, and unwaveringly loyal.
Former chair and longtime member of the Hampshire College Board of Trustees Blair Brown, and his wife Carol, established the staff excellence awards to recognize and provide encouragement for staff as they play their essential part in the Hampshire community.
