Choreographer and Performer Mariana Valencia 02F Featured in New York Times
Valencia's newest work, "Solo B," premiered in November.
Brooklyn-based choreographer and performer Mariana Valencia 02F was prominently featured in the New York Times. In 2018, Valencia won a Bessie Award for Outstanding Breakthrough Choreographer, one of the industry’s highest honors.
Valencia’s current work interweaves performance art and dance. She employs autobiographical storytelling to explore larger issues and often uses humor as a foil to the deeper embedded sadness. This emotional journey allows the audience to engage deeply with her work.
Valencia is a 2020 LMCC Extended Life grantee, a 2019 Whitney Biennial artist, a 2018 Bessie Award recipient for Outstanding Breakout Choreographer, and a 2018 Foundation for Contemporary Arts Award to Artists grant recipient. Her work has been commissioned by Baryshnikov Arts Center, The Chocolate Factory Theater, Danspace Project, The Whitney Museum, The Shed, and Performance Space New York. Valencia has toured nationally and internationally in England, Norway, Macedonia, and Serbia.
While a student at Hampshire College, Valencia studied dance and ethnography.
