Hampshire College will host filmmaker and artist Rhys Ernst and writer and musician Faith Soloway on Monday, April 6. Ernst and Soloway are part of the creative team for Amazon’s groundbreaking series Transparent, winner of 2015 Golden Globes for best comedy series and best actor (Jeffrey Tambor).
As part of Hampshire’s Tashmoo Lecture Series, Ernst and Soloway will speak at 7 p.m. in Hampshire’s Franklin Patterson Hall (Main Lecture Hall). This event is open to the public and free of charge.
Transparent tells the story of a middle-aged parent and three adult children, and what happens when the parent comes out as transgender. The show debuted in September 2014 and instantly became Amazon Prime’s most-watched series.
Ernst, a graduate of Hampshire College, is a consultant and producer on Transparent and created the show’s opening title sequence. Filmmaker Ernst’s work has screened at the Whitney Biennial and Sundance Film Festival.
Soloway is a writer for the show and sister of its creator, Jill Soloway. Their parent is transgender and, although not autobiographical, Transparent is based on their family experiences.
