The Hampshire College Board of Trustees directs that a presidential search committee be convened. Volunteers are solicited from among the trustees, and self-nominations are requested from faculty, staff, and students.

Trustees held listening sessions with staff, faculty and students to hear their thoughts about the search process and provide information.
March 20, 2017
The composition of the presidential search committee is announced, with trustees Luis Hernandez and Carolyn Greenspan as co-chairs.
March 24, 2017
The search committee meets for the first time. Members are charged with soliciting input from faculty, staff, and students and begin developing a search firm request for proposals and a community survey.
March 28, 2017
Twenty-four executive search firms specializing in higher education are sent a request for proposal for presidential search services.
March 31, 2017
The search committee posts a survey to begin collecting community feedback on the qualifications and characteristics we should seek in our next president.
April 20, 2017
The search committee discusses the search firm proposals they've received, and selects their top three to interview.
May 1, 2017
Search Committee interviews three semi-finalist search firms and begins checking references.
May 9, 2017
Isaacson, Miller is selected as the executive search firm that will work with the Hampshire College community to identify our next president.
May 17-18, 2017
Search consultants Sheryl Ash, Rebecca Swartz, and Matt Tzuker from Isaacson, Miller visit campus and hold over 23 listening sessions, including open sessions for faculty, staff and students, meeting with over 100 Hampshire community members. Search committee meets with the consultant to discuss the process, work plan, draft timeline, and scope of the position.
May 19, 2017
Search consultants and co-chairs present an update to, and solicit input from, the Board of Trustees.
May 22, 2017
Work begins on drafting the position specification.
The search committee received over 900 responses to the survey and used that input to draft the position profile. The survey is now closed and the search committee wishes to thank everyone for their feedback!
June 19-21, 2017
Search committee shares the presidential position profile with the Hampshire community for comment and feedback.
June 23, 2017
Search committee finalizes the position profile and Isaacson, Miller begins advertising for the position.
