We accept applications from rising juniors and seniors in high school who are in good academic standing and have no academic or disciplinary suspensions on their records.
Because of their abbreviated duration, Hampshire does not offer transfer credit for the completion of the pre-ollege programs at this time. The quality of the work completed throughout the programs, however, is designed to reflect college-level courses. Students will get a feel for the college experience through intensive study, team-based projects, community engagement, and residential life.
Students are housed as a program in our dormitory-style housing and will receive their room assignments once the program is fully enrolled. A residential advisor will be on site throughout the program to support and supervise students, along with additional residential life staff who oversee all aspects of campus life while students are staying with us for our summer programs. Here is an overview of the residences on campus.
While we do recommend that students live on campus to participate fully in the immersive nature of the curriculum, as well to engage in the bonds and friendships that emerge from living and working together, local students who are able to commute to campus daily are not required to live on campus.
The meal plan covers breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day a student is on campus throughout the duration of the program. More info on Hampshire’s commitment to sustainable dining options.
Full-time Hampshire faculty and staff who are benefits-eligible can receive a 50% discount on tuition for immediate family members attending a pre-college program. Email summer@hampshire.edu after submitting an application to receive the tuition discount.
The cancellation policy for the pre-college programs is based on the minimum number of students required to run the program. If a program does not enroll the minimum by June 15, then the program will be canceled and all enrolled students will be notified and fully refunded.
Important arrival, check-in, and residence information for all participants is available here. Please note that you should plan to be on campus and settled into housing by 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 15, 2018, the day before the program begins.
Admissions decisions are made on a rolling basis. Only completed applications will be reviewed. There are no tuition refunds available on or after July 2, 2018. If a student should withdraw from a summer academic pre-college program at Hampshire College for any reason, the program fee will be refunded according to the schedule below:
Withdrawal on or before June 1: 100% of the fee paid beyond the non-refundable $450 deposit.
Withdrawal between June 2-July 14: 50% of the fee paid beyond the non-refundable $450 deposit.
Withdrawal on or after July 15: no refund.
*The student's date of withdrawal is determined by the postmark on the written notification or the timestamp of the email notification of withdrawal to the program.
