Immersion Spanish

July 16-27, 2018

We plan to run two Spanish program offerings this July for high school students. Please read the descriptions below carefully to find which class would be best for you.

Beginner Spanish

This Spanish Immersion is taught by faculty from the International Language Institute of Massachusetts and is designed for students with no background in Spanish. This class is not a lecture. It is an experiential workshop that includes a strong cultural component in which students learn by doing and spend as much time as possible speaking the language, rather than speaking about the language. All four skill areas (speaking, listening, reading, and writing) are practiced through interactive activities that are based on real-life situations, current events, and the students' experiences. This course is designed for students with no background in Spanish. Students will be introduced to basic grammatical structures including the simple present, future, and one form of past tense, with the focus on using Spanish in context.

Upper Elementary

The Upper Elementary Spanish Immersion is taught by faculty from the International Language Institute of Massachusetts and is designed for students who are able to communicate in Spanish using the simple present and future tenses. As with the Beginning Spanish, this class is not a lecture. It is an experiential workshop that includes a strong cultural component in which students learn by doing and spend as much time as possible speaking the language, rather than speaking about the language. All four skill areas (speaking, listening, reading, and writing) are practiced through interactive activities that are based on real-life situations, current events, and the students' experience. This course will build on students' fluency with basic structures, and introduce the preterit and imperfect tenses, all with the focus of using Spanish in context.

Program Partner

Immersion Spanish will be led by the International Language Institute (ILI), which is a non-profit international language school operating for 33+ years and accredited through the Accrediting Council for Continuing Education and Training and the International Association of Language Centres.
