ITSJ Frequently Asked Questions

Will this program run in summer 2018?

More information regarding our summer 2018 offerings will be made available this fall. Please contact summer@hampshire.edu with any questions.

Who should participate in this program?

The Institute for Transforming Social Justice is targeted towards undergraduate, graduate, and post-B.A. students, and is open to students from any concentration, major, or area of interest.

Are prerequisites required?

We encourage anyone with a strong interest/background in the topics covered during the program to apply. The program is designed to incorporate a variety of skill levels, although it is helpful for the student to have at least some experience.

What is the application timeline?

2017 application review began on February 1, 2017. After this date, applications were reviewed on a rolling basis by the faculty selection committee. Once students were accepted to the program, they were required to make a $400 program deposit. Please note that the full tuition balance was due by May 15, 2017.

Is there financial aid available for this program?

We encourage students to contact your financial aid or summer internship office at your home institution and ask about your options for applying for aid. We will work with all institutions on securing outside funding for students when available.

What is the refund policy for summer academic college programs?

For summer 2017: The full tuition balance is due by May 15, 2017. There are no tuition refunds available on or after June 1, 2017. If a student should withdraw from a summer academic program at Hampshire College for any reason, the program fee will be refunded according to the following schedule:

  • Withdrawal before May 15: 100% of the fee paid beyond the $400 non-refundable deposit.
  • Withdrawal between May 16 - May 31: 50% of the fee paid beyond the $400 non-refundable deposit.
  • Withdrawal on or after June 1: no refund.

The student's date of withdrawal is determined by the postmark on the written notification of withdrawal from the program.

Once my application is accepted, how can I plan my arrival and stay at Hampshire?

Important arrival, check-in, and residence information for all participants is available here. Please note that you should plan to be on campus and settled into housing by 4:00 PM on Sunday, June 4, 2017 the day before the program begins.

What if I have a disability or require a reasonable accommodation?

We are committed to providing reasonable accommodations to any student who might require them. We encourage you to visit Hampshire's office of accessibility resources and services website, or contact us with any questions at summer@hampshire.edu.
