July 16-27, 2018
This program will explore the art and business of making music for films, video games, and other media. For the first half of the day, students will learn through selected readings, discussions, and conversations with filmmakers and composers working in the industry. For the second half of the day, students will apply what they have learned in Hampshire's music production facilities resulting in a final project: new soundtracks composed for short films.
Will Bangs: Teacher. Hampshire alum. Composer. Creative Director.
Will spent his formative years at Hampshire booking shows, hunkering down in the production labs, and bringing together the worlds of education, media production and community-organizing for his Division III project. Currently, he teaches not far from Hampshire at PVPA, a performing arts charter school. He has been a musician his whole life and translated that work into film scoring in 2011. He has produced music for several feature-length films, including an Emmy-award winning documentary series. In 2014, he founded Music Box Licensing - a creative music agency dedicated to finding and crafting soundtracks for films and commercials. He works with a team of musicians and composers around the world to find placements for their music and custom jobs to work on with advertising agencies and film production companies.
