Who is eligible to take this course?
Anyone who is over the age of 18 and interested in teaching and/or international education is welcome to apply.
What is the daily schedule like for this course?
This is an intensive course that requires students to participate from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday-Friday. The activities throughout the course vary--lectures, workshops, group work, lesson planning, etc.--but students should plan to be engaged all day and at times into the evening.
Will I receive college credit?
Hampshire College recommends the equivalent of 4 academic credits for the completion of this program. Students are strongly encouraged to check with their home institutions about accepted transfer credits. Upon completion of the program, students may request a Hampshire College transcript.
How do I apply?
Applications for the 2015 summer program will be available later this fall. We encourage you to apply online as soon as possible to ensure enrollment availability. We have a priority deadline of April 3, but admission is on a rolling basis.
What does the priority deadline mean?
The priority deadline is the latest date we can guarantee room in the program. After April 3, spots are filled on a first come, first served basis.
What is the application timeline?
Typically, once a student submits a complete application, the faculty selection committee will review the application and make an admission decision within two weeks. Once students are notified of the enrollment decision, they are encouraged to make a program deposit to indicate the intention to enroll in the program.
Where will I live on campus?
Students are assigned housing as a program and will receive their assignments once the program is fully enrolled. Here is an overview of the residences on campus.
What does a meal plan include?
The meal plan covers breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day a student is on campus throughout the duration of the program.
Is there financial aid available for this program?
If you are a current Hampshire College student, please indicate on your application that you are interested in checking your eligibility for federal financial aid for this program. For all other students, we encourage you to contact your financial aid office at your home institution and ask about your options for applying for aid. We will work with all institutions on securing outside funding for students when available.
What is the refund policy for summer academic programs?
A $300 nonrefundable tuition deposit will be due two weeks after date of acceptance. The tuition balance is due by May 15. There are no tuition refunds available after the first day of the program.
If a student should withdraw from a summer academic program at Hampshire College for any reason, the program fee will be refunded according to the schedule below.
Withdrawal before the deposit payment deadline date: 100% of the fee paid beyond the non-refundable deposit.
Withdrawal after the program start date: no refund.
The student's date of withdrawal is determined by the postmark on the written notification of withdrawal to the program.
